The Yayasan Satu Dunia researched online media discourse on female circumcision and identified two groups: supporters and opponents. Supporters argue that the practice is different from clitoral cutting and is intended to cleanse vital organs. Opponents claim it has no health benefits and poses risks to sexual and reproductive health. This debate led to the issuance of Minister of Health Regulation No. 6 of 2014 on female circumcision. The study concludes that inconsistent government regulations reflect the intense struggle over the issue, with the government reluctant to risk opposition from religious groups.
