Due to the start of a new programme Explore4Action, Rutgers is seeking full-time personnel:
- 1 Senior Lead researcher – Quantitative & Qualitative
- 1 Senior Program Officer, with research and advocacy experience
- 8 Junior Researchers from/to be placed in Jakarta, Lampung, Denpasar and Semarang – fresh graduated are encouraged to apply
Explore4Action is a research program aiming to build the evidence base on comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in Indonesia, and to use this evidence for pushing the agenda for scaling up of adolescent SRHR strategies in Indonesia. The program entails 3 major research projects: The Youth Voices research: An in-depth exploration of adolescent and youth understandings, perceptions and concerns related to sexuality, relationships, SRH services and sexual development of young people in Indonesia, an Impact Evaluation of Rutgers comprehensive sex education program for very young adolescents, building on measures developed and tested in the Global Early Adolescent Study (GEAS) and an Implementation Research to study the elements of effective ASRH programming. Close collaboration and engagement of key stakeholders (government, schools, media, implementing partners etc.) and young people throughout the research process is a key strategy in the program.
Next to your role in the Explore4Action program, you will be supporting other Rutgers WPF Indonesia‘s research agenda on CSE, SRHR and SGBV.
For Explore4Action:
- You develop research protocols in partnership with partners and stakeholders.
- You provide technical assistance in training (youth) researchers, reviewing, collecting, analysing, interpreting and reporting research data.
- You are involved in dissemination and the uptake of research findings.
Location of research and staff placement is Bandar Lampung, Denpasar, Semarang, Jakarta
What do we ask
Senior Lead Researcher
- Proven track record as lead researcher for qualitative study on sexual and reproductive health issues, and preferably with some experience on quantitative.
- Skilled in applied research on social sciences with more than 8 years’ experience.
- Having programmatic experience is a strong asset due to the implementation research component in improving the comprehensive sexuality education package.
- Shown leadership skill and able to train, support, guide and coach junior young researchers
- Easy going and has a wide range of networks of government officials and civil society
- Strong interpersonal/customer service skills,
- Understand and able to comply with child protection policy
- Fluency in English both oral and written is a MUST.

Senior Program Officer:
- Proven experience on project management of sexual and reproductive health related issues (>8 years), preferably has some involvement in managing a research and advocacy works.
- Excellent skills in report writing and monitoring
- Proven experience in preparing advocacy strategy and creative messages.
- Easy going and has a wide range of networks of government officials and civil society
- Shown leadership skill and able to train, support, guide and coach junior young researchers
- Strong interpersonal/customer service skills,
- Design reports for performance, data quality, and simplicity/maintainability, and articulate as appropriate
- Understand and able to comply with child protection policy
- Fluency in English both oral and written is a MUST.
- Meticulous, able to work with less supervision, and under pressure;
- Flexible, creative, but you can be tenacious in situations where this is necessary

Junior Researcher – Qualitative:
- Bachelor degree majoring in Public Health, Psychology, Social Development, Education; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply
- Willingness to commit for 2 years research project and to be placed in Semarang, Denpasar or Lampung.
- Proven interest in rights based – sexual and reproductive health and rights for young people – please explain this in the motivation letter.
- Having good communication skill and preferably having some experience in research – managing discussion with stakeholder
- Understand and able to comply with child protection policy
- Fluency in English both oral and written is a MUST: TOEFL > 600 or IELTS > 6,5
- Meticulous, able to work with less supervision, and under pressure;
- Flexible, creative, but you can be tenacious in situations where this is necessary
- Highly dedicated to work in non-profit organization.
